To begin with, Alfredo was my advisor, my mentor, the one that guided my first steps in the field of research. After many Sunday afternoons drinking mate together, he convinced me to follow what I do now. He started the Control Systems Research Group of the Departamento de Ingeniería at the Universidad Nacional del Sur, Bahia Blanca. Originally from Ing. Jacobaci, a small town of the south of Argentina, Alfredo was an exceptional human being. A simple and humble man, loving husband and father, Alfredo was also a father for all his ''students''. He was  a man that marked us deeply with his love and passion. This is just a brief and simple homage to a man that gave so much, from the "student" he liked to call "El Pedrito Julián".

Alfredo Desages was born in Ing. Jacobaci, Argentina on December 27, 1945. He received the Ingeniero Electricista degree in 1972 from the Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS), Bahía Blanca. He was Profesor Titular at UNS and Investigador Principal of Comisión de Investigaciones Científicas de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. He worked intensively on nonlinear systems theory, in particular nonlinear circuits, signal processing and nonlinear control systems. He dedicated his career to the development of human resources at the Electrical Engineering Department at UNS, where he formed the Control Systems group during the 80's. He passed away on March 23, 1998.
